Is it spring yet?

Hello everyone!

I hope you’ve had a great week!

We’ve been staying busy with our new dogs and getting them acclimated to living inside. I caught a nasty bug earlier this week and it really knocked me out but I’m getting back to normal now.

I am so over winter. I like a little cold weather and snow but I’m ready for the next season. We got snow and ice this past week and it’s still hanging around. In Hampton Roads, it seems like there is very little done when it comes to snow removal. People here don’t know how to drive safely in it. My work parking lot is still barely plowed and there is black ice everywhere.

Loving Lately–February

Hello and welcome back!

This month’s edition of Loving Lately is all about the beauty products!

Beauty Faves

NYX cosmetics make a lot of great, affordable products. The Butter Gloss is unbeatable in my opinion. Tiramisu is my favorite shade but I own at least 6 of them! I picked the Brow Gel up at Ulta a few weeks ago and it is my favorite brow product! I use an angled MAC brush to apply it and it stays all day! I don’t even need to use clear gel to set it—it’s waterproof and smudgeproof so it doesn’t come off until I take it off.

Winter weather is hard on skin, but my lips really suffer. To keep them looking fresh and healthy, I use a lip scrub twice a week. Lipstick or gloss just doesn’t look good on chapped lips and it doesn’t feel good either, so keep them in tip top shape!

The Body Shop’s tea tree oil mask is a staple year-round for me. My skin feels really clean after I use it.

I got Bath & Body Works A Thousand Wishes for Christmas and I love this sweet scent. (The packaging is pretty too!)

Winter time is CND Shellac time for my nails—I wash my hands constantly and my nails get brittle and break down. I love how strong it makes them feel!

Weekend In Review

Hello! Happy Monday!

(if there is such a thing)

I had a wonderful weekend and I hope you all did too! My sister came to visit and as usual we had a blast! We tried out Zoe’s Kitchen (yum!), did some shopping, and got pedicures together.

When we started thinking about what to have for lunch on Saturday, my sister’s only request was that it be healthy. My husband suggested Zoe’s Kitchen and it was wonderful! They do healthy Mediterranean style food, only it’s fast! I think these locations are franchises and I’m so glad I tried it out! That’s one app I’ll be using often!

Pedicures--a necessity.

After a healthy dose of retail therapy, it was time to treat our feet! We emerged sandal-ready, even though it was about 30 degrees outside. Sunday warmed up significantly and we were able to enjoy our salads outside and fit in a walk around the neighborhood before she had to pack up her car and hit the road.

As always, I hated to see Sara leave. If only we had enjoyed each other’s company this much when we actually lived in the same house ! I guess a lot of siblings probably feel that way.

I’m going to let the fun times and new memories made carry me through this work week! Have a great week everyone!

Workin’ for the weekend

Hello all! Hope your week is going great!

It’s been a while since I posted a wear-to-work outfit. I’m kind of in “uniform” mode, meaning I keep wearing the same things over and over so I don’t have to plan it out or think too hard before I’ve had my coffee. It’s been cold and pretty dark and dreary lately, so an outfit with a little punch of color is just what I need to get going!

I often buy blouses and jackets from the Petites section of stores, because, well, I’m short. I’m 5’3, but my legs are average length which means my torso is short. Petites often offer a better fit so my blouses don’t look like tunics. I caught this Ashton blouse on sale at The Limited and ordered it online a few weeks ago. I had been meaning to try out their Petite line, but since it’s online-only I just never got around to it. I have to say that I really like this Ashton blouse! The fit is great and it comes in tons of colors!

Weekend Inspiration

Happy Sunday!

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend. The past few weeks have been pretty scary for our world. Terrorist attacks, cyber hacks, hostages, uncertain alliances–I never know what I’m going to see next when I turn on the news (probably why so many people don’t watch). It often feels so out of control and I find myself really depressed and powerless.

This verse is so powerful to me. It is hard to “be still” in our world, but it helps me to remember who is really in control.

See you all next week!

What to Wear to Work–When it’s Freezing

Hello All! Welcome Back!

It’s officially cold here in Williamsburg, Virginia. Finally! It is January after all. It’s not snowing, but it feels like it could start any minute.

What to wear, what to wear? It’s freezing, my office will be freezing, and I can’t imagine getting out of my pajamas and braving the wind and cold. Below is a look that is my go-to–slim black pants, a button down and sweater combo– updated with a warm puffer vest. Add some booties (it’s too cold for flats!) and you’re ready to go. The clothes are all Ann Taylor Loft and I actually bought this plaid vest in store. It was marked down with an extra 60% off, plus I had a rewards card to use so it was on super-duper sale.

Stay warm, friends!

My Favorite Holiday Tradition

Hello all!

It’s been a while, and so much has happened in the past few months. My golden passed away in late August after being sick off and on for that month. I’ve been trying to put myself back together since then and writing has not been on the radar.  I debated whether or not I would blog again, but I do miss the creative outlet so here I am.

On a much happier note, my sister visited this past weekend for our Annual Vaughn Sisters Shopping Trip. It’s so fabulous it deserves to be capitalized! We started doing this a few years ago to wrap up last minute shopping and spend some time together. Originally we would meet in Fredericksburg, Virginia–the halfway point between our homes. Last year we updated the tradition, and Sara spent the weekend at my house so we could have even more shopping time. We did the same thing this year and had a blast! We shopped, laughed, ate too much, and stayed up late together. This tradition is probably my favorite part of Christmas.

We shopped at Premium Outlets in Williamsburg on Friday night. Then we hit all the other little stops on Saturday. There aren’t a lot of grocery choices in Luray, so my sister likes to stock up at Trader Joe’s when she comes to Williamsburg. We were in for a treat–live music! This guy sang one of my holiday favorites: Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer!

I was sad to see her leave on Sunday, but I will be home in Luray in just a few days to celebrate Christmas with my family.  After sis hit the road, I spent the rest of the evening recuperating. Shopping can really wear you out!

Casual on Repeat

 Welcome Back!!

Tee, Pants, and necklace, J. Crew Factory; bag, Fossil; loafers, Nine West.

Tee, Pants, and necklace, J. Crew Factory; bag, Fossil; loafers, Nine West.

I’m still on my casual kick, as you can see. Neutrals are just so nice!

I just picked up this Paris tee from J. Crew Factory. I totally want to tuck it into a big tulle skirt. I recently discovered Frankie chinos at the Factory store (similar to the Andie chinos in the retail store) and they are my favorite pants ever. Period. EVER. They are super comfortable and just the right length for flats or wedges. They are soft and don’t get saggy by the end of the day. To me, they are so much more comfotable than jeans so if I can’t wear my PJ pants, I’ll be wearing the Frankie chino! I have purchased all of the colors except the khaki (khaki is a hard thing to wear if you have big hips) and the dark purple color.

What are you loving right now?

Weekend Casual

Hello all! Welcome back!

I’ve been staying casual as much as possible lately! It’s much too hot for anything else.

poly

I bought this T-shirt at J. Crew Factory a few weeks ago and I’ve been living in it. I actually sized up so it would be loose and comfy. I know I’m way behind, but I bought my first crossbody bag this past week and I love it! I’ve always been a structured satchel kind of woman but I wanted a hands-free option for running errands. I only wish I had jumped on the bandwagon earlier!

Have a great weekend y’all!
