Loving at Talbots

Hello all and welcome back!

It’s been quite a week around here with lots and lots of snow and ice. I’ve been perusing all the spring catalogs I got in the mail and I love so many of the new arrivals at Talbots.

Is it spring yet?

Hello everyone!

I hope you’ve had a great week!

We’ve been staying busy with our new dogs and getting them acclimated to living inside. I caught a nasty bug earlier this week and it really knocked me out but I’m getting back to normal now.

I am so over winter. I like a little cold weather and snow but I’m ready for the next season. We got snow and ice this past week and it’s still hanging around. In Hampton Roads, it seems like there is very little done when it comes to snow removal. People here don’t know how to drive safely in it. My work parking lot is still barely plowed and there is black ice everywhere.

Our pups!

Hello all!

Hope you’re all staying warm! It’s so cold here in Williamsburg. We are expecting a few inches of snow tonight. We picked up our rescue dogs really late Friday night in Maryland and we’ve both taken a few days off to spend at home with them this week to help them get settled.

Their new names are Riley and Maddie and we are so in love with them!

They haven’t lived indoors before and it’s clear they weren’t used to getting plenty of food before they went to the shelter. They are learning good manners quickly and are eager to please. Riley loves toys and Maddie loves to cuddle and nap.

We are enjoying spoiling them and learning their personalities. So happy to have them in our lives!

Don’t shop…

ADOPT!
Hello all and welcome back!

As you may remember reading, my Golden Retriever Cole passed away last August. We were totally heartbroken. Even though we thought we would wait at least a year before getting another dog, we recently started checking out rescue dogs.
Even before Cole passed away, I knew that the next dog I got would have to be a rescue. There are so many wonderful dogs and cats that need homes. People join waiting lists for those cute puppies at the breeders while older mixed-breed dogs sit in shelters. This is one thing that I don’t want to shop for. You don’t have to get a purebred to experience pure love!
My husband found Bumble and Bee on a rescue site in Tennessee. They are a bonded pair of year-old Labrador Retrievers. He showed me their pictures, and asked what I thought about two dogs instead of just one. What did I think?! Double the love!

Loving Lately–February

Hello and welcome back!

This month’s edition of Loving Lately is all about the beauty products!

Beauty Faves

NYX cosmetics make a lot of great, affordable products. The Butter Gloss is unbeatable in my opinion. Tiramisu is my favorite shade but I own at least 6 of them! I picked the Brow Gel up at Ulta a few weeks ago and it is my favorite brow product! I use an angled MAC brush to apply it and it stays all day! I don’t even need to use clear gel to set it—it’s waterproof and smudgeproof so it doesn’t come off until I take it off.

Winter weather is hard on skin, but my lips really suffer. To keep them looking fresh and healthy, I use a lip scrub twice a week. Lipstick or gloss just doesn’t look good on chapped lips and it doesn’t feel good either, so keep them in tip top shape!

The Body Shop’s tea tree oil mask is a staple year-round for me. My skin feels really clean after I use it.

I got Bath & Body Works A Thousand Wishes for Christmas and I love this sweet scent. (The packaging is pretty too!)

Winter time is CND Shellac time for my nails—I wash my hands constantly and my nails get brittle and break down. I love how strong it makes them feel!

Weekend In Review

Hello! Happy Monday!

(if there is such a thing)

I had a wonderful weekend and I hope you all did too! My sister came to visit and as usual we had a blast! We tried out Zoe’s Kitchen (yum!), did some shopping, and got pedicures together.

Zoe's Kitchen-- She got chicken with orzo pasta, I had the chicken kabobs

When we started thinking about what to have for lunch on Saturday, my sister’s only request was that it be healthy. My husband suggested Zoe’s Kitchen and it was wonderful! They do healthy Mediterranean style food, only it’s fast! I think these locations are franchises and I’m so glad I tried it out! That’s one app I’ll be using often!

Pedicures--a necessity.

After a healthy dose of retail therapy, it was time to treat our feet! We emerged sandal-ready, even though it was about 30 degrees outside. Sunday warmed up significantly and we were able to enjoy our salads outside and fit in a walk around the neighborhood before she had to pack up her car and hit the road.

As always, I hated to see Sara leave. If only we had enjoyed each other’s company this much when we actually lived in the same house ! I guess a lot of siblings probably feel that way.

I’m going to let the fun times and new memories made carry me through this work week! Have a great week everyone!

Workin’ for the weekend

Hello all! Hope your week is going great!

It’s been a while since I posted a wear-to-work outfit. I’m kind of in “uniform” mode, meaning I keep wearing the same things over and over so I don’t have to plan it out or think too hard before I’ve had my coffee. It’s been cold and pretty dark and dreary lately, so an outfit with a little punch of color is just what I need to get going!

I often buy blouses and jackets from the Petites section of stores, because, well, I’m short. I’m 5’3, but my legs are average length which means my torso is short. Petites often offer a better fit so my blouses don’t look like tunics. I caught this Ashton blouse on sale at The Limited and ordered it online a few weeks ago. I had been meaning to try out their Petite line, but since it’s online-only I just never got around to it. I have to say that I really like this Ashton blouse! The fit is great and it comes in tons of colors!

Pin-Spired

Hello all and welcome back!

I’m back today with another Pinterest-inspired outfit. This pin has been on my “Fall/Winter Fashion” board for a while.

Pinterest really helps me shop my own closet. When I’m drawing a blank about what to wear, I refer back to my Pinterest boards, pick something, and then do my best to re-assemble the look or one like it; it is usually not exactly the same as what I’ve pinned.  This one is pretty close, but I didn’t have a maroon pencil skirt so I substituted pants.

imageThis gray leather bag is also from J. Crew Factory and I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how much the gray goes with! I purposely bought a smaller bag in an effort to “lighten the load” on my shoulder and back (I tend to carry my whole life in a bag if it’s big enough!)

What has you “Pin-Spired” lately?
