2014– Year in Review

 Hello! Welcome back!

Photo-heavy post to follow!

I love New Year’s because it is like the first page in a new notebook….blank. A clean slate. A time to start over. A time to make changes. 2015 is just ahead and I am excited about what it will hold!

2014 was overall a really wonderful year.  My husband started a new job in Richmond this past year. No more 3am mornings or super long commutes! Though he sure stays busy, he is enjoying his work and doing a great job.

My mom and I started off our year right at the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia for a pageant weekend.

The wonderful people in my life are what have made this such a great year and have helped me get through the not-so-wonderful times.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow is credited with saying “Into each life some rain must fall”. Sadly, our Golden Retriever Cole passed away in late August.  He was 10 years old. It is hard to put into words just how much we miss him. My heart still hurts over losing him. I KNOW we were lucky to have him as long as we did and that we were lucky to catch the cancer the first time. I always said we got a bonus year with him. Although our love for him never changed, we certainly appreciated him more after the first cancer scare. We were much more “in the moment” with him, because any moment could easily have been our last.  He loved being the center of attention, and he was definitely the center of our family.

I’ve had joy and I’ve had tears in 2014. I’m thankful for the memories I’ve made. Now it’s onto a new year with all the possibilities in the world !

My Favorite Holiday Tradition

Hello all!

It’s been a while, and so much has happened in the past few months. My golden passed away in late August after being sick off and on for that month. I’ve been trying to put myself back together since then and writing has not been on the radar.  I debated whether or not I would blog again, but I do miss the creative outlet so here I am.

On a much happier note, my sister visited this past weekend for our Annual Vaughn Sisters Shopping Trip. It’s so fabulous it deserves to be capitalized! We started doing this a few years ago to wrap up last minute shopping and spend some time together. Originally we would meet in Fredericksburg, Virginia–the halfway point between our homes. Last year we updated the tradition, and Sara spent the weekend at my house so we could have even more shopping time. We did the same thing this year and had a blast! We shopped, laughed, ate too much, and stayed up late together. This tradition is probably my favorite part of Christmas.

We shopped at Premium Outlets in Williamsburg on Friday night. Then we hit all the other little stops on Saturday. There aren’t a lot of grocery choices in Luray, so my sister likes to stock up at Trader Joe’s when she comes to Williamsburg. We were in for a treat–live music! This guy sang one of my holiday favorites: Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer!

I was sad to see her leave on Sunday, but I will be home in Luray in just a few days to celebrate Christmas with my family.  After sis hit the road, I spent the rest of the evening recuperating. Shopping can really wear you out!

Hope you all had a great weekend!
