It’s hard to believe today is the last day of February. Time is flying! Hopefully it will start to feel like spring soon–today it’s a brisk 24 degrees.
I went home to Luray last weekend for a friend’s baby shower and it was the bright spot in my busy week. Normally my in-laws keep my dog Cole but they couldn’t this time so he got to go along!
It was a gorgeous weekend. This is the view behind one of my parents’ properties. Cole made himself at home, and was looking like a country dog by the end of the day!
My husband took this photo and I just love it. My dad and Cole taking things in!
At Christy’s baby shower with the mom-to-be and our friend Emily.
My best friend Christy is expecting her first baby–she is the first in our group to venture into motherhood and we all got together to celebrate her! She had friends drive into Page County from all over the state to support her. It was wonderful to see everyone and to celebrate Baby Renken!
What was the highlight of your week?
Hope everyone is having a great week!
As I mentioned in my last post, I love scouring Pinterest for outfit inspiration. But most of those outfits end up being something for casual Friday, or the weekend since I spend 40 hours a week in work attire. Jeans are only for Fridays in my office. Some mornings (and I am not a morning person!) it’s tough to find a cute, creative, office-appropriate outfit.
I love Capital Hill Style ( http://www.caphillstyle.com/) and The Classy Cubicle (http://www.theclassycubicle.com/) for wear-to-work ideas. Check them out!
Without further adieu, here’s what I’m wearing this Wednesday….
Pink dress, belt, and polka dot blazer, Target; Bow pumps, Kohl’s.
What’s your favorite wear-to-work outfit?
Happy Wednesday all!
If y’all are anything like me, you spend a lot of time on Pinterest! I had been making inspiration boards for years, you know, on actual cork boards but then Pinterest came along and kicked it up a notch!
I recently switched offices in my building and I wanted to do something different. I started to notice a theme– gold and girly.

Unfortunately I can’t paint my office wall with gold dots, so mine will have to be a little more low-key.
I started searching around my house for anything I could use. Before I moved in with my husband, I had lots of girly stuff. Since I got married I try not to suffocate my husband with pink all over our home. I actually found this Isaac Mizrahi print (several years old, possibly from Target) and this pink bow frame ( also several years old, a T.J. Maxx find) in a storage box. They were both in my apartment at one time or another, so I was happy I could find a new use for them!
I picked up the larger gold frame at Target (for .98!!) and used it to frame a “Keep Calm” greeting card in gold, and the other gold frame (still in need of a photo) at Michael’s. Notepads and notecards in gold stripe are from the “One Spot” at Target.
On top of the bookcase
I found the gold bucket and frames at Target (frames are several years old) and the silk flowers are from Michael’s.
The previous owner of my office left me with two big nails in the wall–no problem! The Eiffel Tower print is from my old college apartment and I actually made the gold dot print canvas. That is as close as I can get to having gold dots on my wall!
All in all I was pretty pleased with how my office turned out, and really happy that I could find a new use for some old items!!
Have a wonderful day everyone!
It’s time to relax, sit back, and pour yourself a drink! My personal favorite is a Southern Spiked Sweet Tea. This drink always makes me think of warm breezes and relaxing on the porch, even if it’s 20 degrees outside! I just shake 2 oz. of Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka with 8 oz. of lemonade. I usually try to make fresh lemonade, but if I’m feeling lazy Simple Lemon does the job! Pour over ice and garnish with a lemon wedge and mint leaves if desired.

And of course we couldn’t have Friday without a casual outfit!
Jeans and sweatshirt, J. Crew; Button down, Target; Flats, Tory Burch.
I’m dying to break out my spring clothes. It’s been warmer here all week, so if I can’t wear short sleeves yet I’ll at least wear some bright colors!
Have a Happy Friday y’all!
Hello everyone! Happy Hump Day!
This week is going by quickly! I guess it helps having Monday as a holiday. We are enjoying a little reprieve from all of the snow and ice this week and it certainly puts me in the mood for SPRING!
As you can probably tell, I shop everywhere–from higher end brands to Target and everything in between. I love TJ Maxx and Marshalls too–you just never know what you will find! For this Wish-List Wednesday I wanted to share a few cute items from J. C. Penney.
This adorable gingham shirt comes in several pretty colors for spring! And at a great price, currently only $19.99!

Hope you all have a fabulous day! We’re halfway there y’all, the weekend is in sight!
Hello all! I hope you all had a great weekend (and for some of you, a great 3-day weekend)!
I had a wonderful long weekend with my husband and Cole. It was very cold here again all weekend so we stayed indoors mostly enjoying some family time. Brad sent flowers to my office to surprise me on Valentine’s Day! I was very surprised, because we usually don’t buy each other V-Day gifts!
Stargazers and roses
Netflix gave us a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift–Season 2 of House of Cards!
House of Cards Season 2 poster
If you’ve missed House of Cards, it’s a Netflix-created series that follows DC politicians and it’s easily the most intelligent, thought-provoking show I’ve seen in years. It’s dark. And addictive. Brad and I binge-watched it all weekend. Netflix-created series are a bit of a double edged sword–you can watch them all at once and not have to wait weeks in between, but once you’ve watched them all you have to wait forever for the next season! The end of each episode makes it impossible not to hit play on the next. Do yourself a favor and watch this show if you’re not already!
I did a little shopping this holiday weekend and got a great deal at the Kate Spade outlet store:
Kate Spade New York Flats Necklace
I hope you all had a fun weekend!
Are you watching House of Cards? Tell me in the comments!
It’s been a long time again. My apologies! Life is busy, I’ve been meaning to post, blah, blah blah….sometimes I just wait to write until I have something to say (I know, you’d think I always have something to say, right?!).
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching! My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day, meaning we don’t really participate in the whole flowers/dinner out/jewelry/gift exchange thing. My practical side doesn’t like to fight the crowds for dinner and don’t get me started on overpriced flowers! If you really insist on getting me something, go with something I can enjoy more than once– chocolate, a pretty nail polish, cute stud earrings.
As a side note, I have to say my husband does a wonderful job of making me feel loved everyday of the year. I know that sounds sappy and saccharine, but it’s true. Sometimes it’s in the little things, like putting gas in my car so I don’t have to stop in the cold, and sometimes it’s in the bigger things, like booking the perfect beach house for a vacation.
Here are some cute suggestions for Valentine’s Day! Hope you all have a wonderful day!
